I created this blog as a result of many impassioned discussions in the class “Theology in the Public Square” at the Divinity School at the University of Chicago.
To my colleagues, I hope this can be a place for our conversations about God and social justice and religious voices and politics analysis and prophetic witness to continue, outside the classroom.
To all other visitors, I invite you to participate in our discussions. This is, after all, about public theology.
A few important notes:
Posts to the blog can be made by members of the class, comments by anyone.
The blog, like the class, will hopefully be interfaith. That said, I believe that a plurality of perspectives can enhance our conversation, even concerning particular faith traditions, rather than limit it.
Disrespectful comments (including mean-spirited attacks on individuals or religious communities) will be promptly trashed.
This blog and the posts and comments within it are not representative of the University of Chicago or its Divinity School.
Okay, then, let’s get to it!
